Leggett & Platt Incorporated National Technical Center Testing Department Sonar Measuring System Procedures
The Sonar Measuring System provides an accurate method of measuring the actual height and/or loss of height in a set of bedding. The System utilizes an Ocean Motion Sonar SR-1000 ultra sonic transceiver/receiver. One transducer signals in the vertical plane for height measurements with a second in the horizontal plane for transverse location data. The unit is capable of taking a programmable number ofreadings over a given distance at the operator's discretion. The system's primary use is in determining height loss in sets of bedding, comparing a new or virgin sample to a post tested state.

The Sonar Measuring System is capable of accommodating a twin size, full size, queen size or king size set of bedding with readings taken at programmed increments. When desired, the Sonar Measuring System can be moved to a position over a Rollator Test Machine. The date received may be used for comparative analysis of samples tested. may be modified to accommodate many additional types of products, such as bed bases, sleeper mattresses, sleeper fixtures or waterbeds to name but just a few. The data retrieved may be used for comparative analysis of samples tested.
